Making Trophies from Scratch...and Scraps

March 04, 2016

Trophies made from Scrap Wood

Despite our best efforts to minimize wood waste through prudent design and sound manufacturing processes, we still end up with small scraps of wood that need to be diverted from the waste stream. We can compost them, of course, but last year we got thinking that it might be fun to turn them into awards.  After some brainstorming with our design and woodworking teams, we came up with HappenStack, BoardWalk, and HighStakes. Each trophy is unique.  Quantities are limited because we really do minimize waste.

A word about the labels on these awards:  As a Forest Stewardship Council(R) chain-of-custody provider, we take FSC(R) labeling very seriously.  Our scrap wood products are labeled FSC MIX because they are made from FSC-certified woods (we use only FSC-certified woods in our production).  The FSC Recycled label is used only for wood and or wood fibre that has been reclaimed from a product after that product has been used for its intended purpose by individuals or businesses. Our scrap wood is a post-industrial, not post-consumer input and these trophies, as a result, are labelled FSC MIX.
