10 Big ReasonsRivanna Natural Designs, Inc. announced today that it has contracted with UPS to use UPS carbon neutral shipping to ship the company's planet-friendly awards, plaques, and gifts in North America and worldwide. The agreement is retroactive to January 1, 2019.
"Over the years, we devised several methods for estimating and offsetting the GHG emissions from our package shipments," says Crystal Mario, CEO. "Handing this responsibility off to UPS saves us time, reduces our administrative costs, and enables us to more effectively reduce our climate impacts."UPS has been our primary carrier since we shipped our package in 2002. We appreciate that UPS is working first reduce to emissions through supply chain optimization and then to offset emissions via recognized standards."
UPS offers two programs for shipping carbon neutral: transactional (for customers with under 50K shipments per year) and contractual (for larger shippers). The contractual program also covers LTL, TL, Air, and Ocean shipments, an important consideration for customers with large award programs that require freight shipping.
UPS's carbon neutral option supports projects that offset the emissions of the shipment's transport. UPS has supported projects that include reforestation, landfill gas destruction, wastewater treatment, and methane destruction.
Over the next few weeks, Rivanna's customers and award recipients will see a new label on each package shipment that indicates the shipment is carbon neutral. Mario noted: "Our team considered the environmental impacts of adding a paper label and agreed that, at present, there is a need to inform and educate customers about carbon-neutral shipping and encourage its use in every shipping transaction. We look forward to a day when carbon-neutral shipping is ubiquitous and the label is no longer necessary."
