10 Big ReasonsCelebrate achievement with the beauty and integrity of mahogany awards and plaques — handcrafted from responsibly sourced tropical hardwood. At Rivanna, we’ve been committed to sustainable materials and transparent sourcing since day one. Mahogany has been the only tropical hardwood in our collection since we became an FSC®-certified chain-of-custody provider (FSC-C019049) in 2002.
While we originally committed to using only domestic hardwoods, we chose to offer FSC-certified Central American mahogany after conversations with forest managers and conservationists convinced us that responsible sourcing could support indigenous rainforest communities and provide a market alternative to illegal logging. Today, our mahogany awards feature wood from well-managed forests like those in the Maya Biosphere Reserve — where conservation and community livelihoods go hand in hand.
A favorite of American craftspeople since the 18th century, mahogany is prized for its workability, durability, and rich dark red-brown hue. Its dense, straight grain creates a smooth, naturally glossy surface — perfect for elegant, lasting recognition.
If you’re looking for a planet-friendly alternative to piano-finished plaques, rosewood awards, or ebony trophies, this collection offers a sustainable, ethically sourced option. Many glossy, imported plaques on the market are made from tropical hardwoods like rosewood or ebony — woods often linked to deforestation, illegal logging, and harm to forest communities. Our FSC-certified mahogany awards are different — they reflect your values as much as your vision.
Like all Rivanna products, these awards are original designs, handcrafted in the USA, and ship carbon neutral. Choose mahogany awards that honor both achievement and the health of the world’s forests.
The mahogany used in our awards comes from well-managed forests like those in Guatemala’s Maya Biosphere Reserve, where local communities lead conservation efforts and protect biodiversity.
This model of community-based forestry has achieved near-zero deforestation — providing a sustainable alternative to illegal logging while supporting livelihoods and rainforest preservation.
