10 Big Reasons
As a Virginia Benefit corporation, we are required by law to publish an annual Impact Report that describes the public benefits we pursue.
Since we're a certified B Corporation, much of the information about our social and environmental performance is already included in our publicly-available Impact Assessment. The Impact Assessment provides performance metrics and includes our Impact Score. In our 2022 audit, we earned an overall score of 147.3. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.
The Impact Assessment is an important tool for us, and we rely on its metrics to set goals and run our day-to-day business. Our Impact Report is a more reflective, descriptive document that enables us to assess our progress over the past year, celebrate our achievements, and share our future plans with all our stakeholders.
Creating an annual Impact Report for stakeholders can be a daunting task, especially for a small business. For most of us, our scare resources are busy attending to the actual substance of the report (the impacts!), so we're frequently scrambling to find the time to create the report itself.
This year, however, creating and publishing our 2021 Impact Report was (gasp!) fun. First, we got a lot good work done last year, and we were happy to reflect on it. Second, we found a new platform that made it easy for us.
Earlier this year, we had the good fortune to beta test Unit of Impact, a platform that allows us to collect and organize our impact data, then format and publish a social impact report that is uniquely our own. We were so pleased with the platform and the beta version of our Impact Report that we became an official Unit Co. customer when the platform went live in September.
